and their PostScript technology.  In fact, Apple has owned a substantial portion of the common shares of Adobe.  But, in a recent business move, Apple sold its shares of Adobe, and announced it would no longer be supporting the use of PostScript in its computers.  Later in the year, Apple announced that it would be teaming up with MicroSoft to create its own PostScript like environment.   
Recently, Apple has announced the incorporation of Outline Fonts into the new System 7.0.  This technology would generate Fonts with a new implementation of QuickDraw.  Apple has dubbed this Font technology Royal Fonts.  Information about the features included in the Royal Font environment have been filtering out from Apple, but to date, no actual working model of this system is available.

Introducing ATM
In an apparent move to beat Apple to the market, Adobe has recently released Adobe Type Manager (ATM).  This is PostScript Outline Font software, for the Macintosh, that incorporates pieces of the PostScript output and screen display features.  The package consists of two INIT files that are added to your system folder, and four Outline Font files also placed in the system folder.  Adobe claims to have taken certain parts of their PostScript software and placed them into this package.   The feature of this software is that it allows those of us with non-PostScript screens and printers to take advantage of the clarity and sizability of  Outline Font                            Technology.
